BARGE HIRE

Palm Island Barge Company operates the Landing Barges ‘Olympic’ and ‘Lady Fraser’ and has a Great Barrier Marine Park Authority Permit to operate in the partially smooth waters between Palm Island and Dunk Island.

The barges are available for charter.  For charter information please call our Lucinda office on 07 4777 8282 or email shipping@palmbarge.com.au.

During the last ten years the barges have been chartered to both government departments and commercial businesses to carry out the following projects :-

  • Shipment of raw materials, plant & equipment and pozzolanic cement trucks for the Palm Island Airport upgrade
  • Installation of the Radar Monitoring Tower on Pelorus Island for Commercial Shipping
  • Building re-construction on Dunk Island Resort after Cyclones Larry and Yasi
  • Shipment of de-mountable buildings to Palm Island
  • Shipment of building modules and building material for upgrade on James Cook University Research Station on Orpheus Island
  • Shipment of cattle for the Palm Island Rodeo
  • Installation of Weather Monitoring Unit at Lucinda Sugar Jetty

Palm Island Barge Company has developed a reputation for excellent customer relations whilst providing a service second to none. We strive to deliver a fast, efficient service at a price which is competitive. The small size of our business allows us to be extremely flexible in order to accommodate our customers’ requirements.

As well as our daily freight service to Palm Island, our barges are available for charter. We have the resources to increase services to Palm Island to facilitate the shipment of large quantities of building materials (including demountable buildings), raw materials and general freight. When required we have the flexibility to operate 24 hours per day scheduling three trips, per barge, in a 24 hour period to Palm Island. We are also available for work outside of Palm Island if required.
